Guingamp 2 - 3 Nice: Alassane Plea strikes twice as Nice secure Europa League spot

Alassane Plea struck twice as Nice finished in fourth place in Ligue 1 with a 3-2 victory over Guingamp at the Stade du Roudourou.

Plea scored in each half - including the winner - to book his team's place in the Europa League next season with their sixth victory in 13 games.

However, the result was not enough to secure Champions League football due Monaco's 2-0 victory over Montpellier.

The 23-year-old French forward has been criticised for his lack of goals, but he notched his fifth and sixth of the league campaign to finish the season on a high.

He opened the scoring after only two minutes with a beautiful curling shot from just inside the area after being released by Vincent Koziello, giving keeper Jonas Lossl no chance.

Guingamp levelled in the 20th minute when Jimmy Brian squared to Mevlut Erding who directed the ball over keeper Yoan Cardinale with his right foot.

Nice went back in front on the stroke of half-time when Jean Michel Seri drove home a deflected shot from the edge of the area.

Another twist in an entertaining match came in the 56th minute when Guingamp levelled through a forceful own goal by Romain Genevois.

The winning goal came in the 61st minute after Hatem Ben Arfa landed a pinpoint cross delivered from the left wing on to the penalty spot where Plea was on hand to steer the ball past Lossl.
