Getafe 2 - 2 Valencia: Getafe pegged back and stay in relegation zone

Relegation-threatened Getafe did little to boost their Primera Division survival hopes as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Valencia.

All the goals came in an entertaining second half and the hosts led after Alvaro Medran and substitute Stefan Scepovic scored to usurp the advantage given to Valencia by former Getafe midfielder Dani Parejo.

Another ex-El Geta player, Paco Alcacer, equalised late on and the hosts had a glorious chance to win it - and climb out of the relegation zone - deep into injury time but Abdoul Yoda missed the target from close range.

Getafe looked good after that indifferent start and Medran glanced a header wide from a cross by Pedro Leon, who then saw a swerving, dipping right-foot shot strike the underside of the crossbar after half an hour.

Parejo's free-kick from the left-hand side of the area put the visitors ahead three minutes into the second half. Leon should have levelled shortly afterwards but blazed the ball over the crossbar from 10 yards out.

Getafe did equalise after 59 minutes when Moi Gomez's volley was saved by Diego Alves but Medran scuffed the rebound back towards goal and the ball trickled over the line.

Another mistake involving Aymen Abdennour allowed Scepovic to race through one-on-one and beat the goalkeeper with a tidy finish with the outside of his right foot to put the hosts ahead with 68 minutes on the clock.

But Valencia were level six minutes from time after some persistent work by substitute Alvaro Negredo down the right-hand side of the penalty area which resulted in him flicking the ball to Alcacer, who volleyed it into the bottom corner from close range.
