Southampton have made it their top priority to bring Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back to Saint Mary’s this summer.
The Mirror report that they want the academy product to return to the club after leaving for Arsenal in 2011 in a £15 million deal when he was a teenage prodigy. The move to the Emirates hasn’t been a resounding success.
While the Ox has shown flashes of his undoubted ability, he’s struggled with injuries and inconsistency for much of his five years at the Emirates. Now 22 years old, Southampton are offering him a key role in their side.
The attacker can’t command a starting spot in Arsene Wenger’s side with 15 of his 33 appearances this season coming off the bench. As well as making him their best-paid player, Southampton will offer the Ox a vice-captaincy role in the hope that his ties to the club would convince him to join them instead of Chelsea, West Ham or Man City.
