Juan Mata has revealed that Luke Shaw is back running in training ahead of the Manchester United defender’s return from a broken leg.

The England defender has been sidelined for most of the season after Shaw broke his leg in two places during United’s 2-1 defeat by PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League in September.

The former Southampton defender has recently suggested that he could be in contention for the FA Cup final if the Red Devils manage to reach the Wembley showpiece in May despite his lack of first-team football.

And Mata posted the above selfie with Shaw on his Instagram page ahead of United’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane next weekend.

Mata wrote the following caption on the photo-sharing app: "My friend @lukeshaw23 just came in from running out on the pitch! Getting closer"

The United left-back has made 28 appearances in all competitions for Van Gaal’s side so far this season.

Shaw moved to United in a £27m deal from Southampton in 2014.
