Posted Sunday, April 03, 2016 by PA
St Etienne moved to within three points of third place in Ligue 1 by securing a 2-0 victory at relegation-threatened GFC Ajaccio.
Les Verts took a 1-0 lead into half-time thanks to Nolan Roux's unstoppable strike from an acute angle on 14 minutes, set up by a superb counter-attack.
They doubled their advantage on 58 minutes, Kevin Theophile-Catherine reacting quickest to fire home through a crowded penalty area following a corner.
The hosts' best chances came in the first half when St Etienne goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier twice denied Jacques Zoua from close range and palmed away Damjan Djokovic's powerful shot.
