Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on transfer claims: I can’t talk about “extraordinary” Mario Gotze

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has refused to talk about Bayern Munich‘s Mario Gotze, whom he believes has "extraordinary abilities”, following recent transfer speculation linking him with a summer move for the playmaker.

Gotze started for Germany at home to Italy in the Allianz Arena last night and starred for the reigning world champions as they dismantled Antonio Conte’s side in a 4-1 victory.

The German midfielder scored and was instrumental in the build-up to Jonas Hector’s goal with a clever back-heel that bamboozled Leonardo Bonucci.

Gotze has emerged as a big summer target for Liverpool and Klopp, as the German is said to have plans of reigniting their relationship at Anfield after having nurtured his talent at Borussia Dortmund.

Klopp was willing to talk about Schalke’s exit-bound centre-half, Joel Matip, who will join Liverpool on a free transfer this summer.

"We can talk about [Joel] Matip or something else, but not Mario [Gotze],” Klopp told reporters, via Ruhr Nachrichten.

However, he was pleased with the German’s performance for the national side last night.

"I am happy that he put in a good performance yesterday. But there is nothing to add from my side,” he continued. “He’s a player with extraordinary abilities and wants to return to full fitness after four months on the sidelines.”

Mario Gotze has scored one league goal this season.

A report from the Daily Express on Monday claimed Gotze was ready to move to Liverpool as he would like to work with Klopp once again following a disappointing two-and-a-half seasons at Bayern Munich.

Gotze has made eight Bundesliga appearances this season, though a serious injury can account for much of that lack of playing time, while last season he made 32 top-flight appearances, 28 of which he started, scoring nine goals and creating 45 chances.
