Stielike wants South Korea to continue dominance

Uli Stielike has urged his South Korean side to build on their impressive recent performances when they play Lebanon on Thursday at 19:00 (HKT) in a World Cup qualifier.

Despite having already progressed to the third stage of Asia World Cup Qualifying, Stielike is still demanding a strong showing from the South Korea national side when they face a Lebanon outfit that will be desperate to win as they can also still advance.

The Taegeuk Warriors have been in superb of form of late, winning six of their last six internationals by scoring an incredible 24 goals and not conceding one.

And their pragmatic manager sees the game against Lebanon and the friendly against Thailand three days later as ideal opportunities to make further improvements.

"These matches could have no meaning since we have already advanced to the final round of the qualification," Stielike explained.

"However, we have been playing great since last year, and I don't want to ruin that milestone by not playing well in upcoming matches."

It appears that the 61-year-old will keep a close eye on the likes of Kim Jin-su (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim), Park Joo-ho (Borussia Dortmund) and Lee Chung-yong (Crystal Palace) to see if they are still the players they once were before they moved to big European clubs and struggled for game time.

"I have given them an opportunity.

"I will see how they perform in answer to my call-up.

"For the next call-up, we have about two months left. Until then, I will search for players in the K-League who have talent to be on the national team."
