Deportivo La Coruna 2 - 1 Levante: Deportivo La Coruna end losing run with win over Levante

The season's longest winless run in the Primera Division is over after Deportivo La Coruna's 2-1 victory against Levante.

It looked like it may end in a draw after Giuseppe Rossi cancelled out Luis Alberto's opener for the hosts but an own goal by the unfortunate Diego Marino, who had made a couple of decent saves during the game, saw Deportivo taste success for the first time in 14 matches.

Deportivo climb up into the top half of the table while Levante remain without an away win since November and stay bottom.

It was a game of few chances. Marino had to get down to his right to smother a 25-yard shot from Celso Borges after 10 minutes.

He made a much more taxing save on the half hour when he got his finger tips on the ball to divert Faycal Fajr's angled shot wide, although the referee did not give him the credit he deserved as he wrongly gave a goal kick.

At the other end, Jose Luis Morales was off target when well positioned inside the penalty area.

Luis Alberto provided a rare piece of class and composure to score two minutes before half-time. The former Liverpool player retrieved Martinez Lucas Perez's cross and performed a couple of drag-backs to elude Carl Medjani before scoring his sixth league goal of the season from eight yards out.

Levante were level though, five minutes after the break. Jose Antonio Verza's brilliantly disguised pass found Rossi, who showed good feet to change direction inside the penalty area and beat goalkeeper German Lux with a low shot.

The winning goal came five minutes from time. Marino denied Luis Alberto but Perez was on to the rebound and his shot hit the post before ricocheting against Marino and into the net.
