Liverpool to confirm summer capture of Bundesliga centre-back today

Liverpool are set to confirm the signing of FC Schalke star Joel Matip on a Bosman today, according to reports from the Telegraph.
Matip was heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga since the January transfer window, with the Cameroon international only having six months left on his Schalke contract.
However, the German club were unwilling to sell the centre-back until the end of the season, rather losing him for free in the summer instead of finding a replacement to fill his void.
And Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has moved quickly in an attempt to complete his transfer, opening pre-contract talks that are set to be finalized today.
Liverpool were struggling with an injury crisis last month and were hoping to bring Matip to provide sufficient cover, but Schalke's reluctance to sell saw Klopp sign Southampton defender Steven Caulker on loan until the end of the campaign.
Matip, 24, has made 26 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring four goals.
