Pep Guardiola plans to bring this Bayern star to City in the summer
TARGET: Pep plans to bring talented defender Alaba with him from Bayern

But Bayern – Guardiola’s present club – will fight to keep Austria’s left back. Alaba, 23, has two years left on his contract and is rated at £40million, which would be a world record for a full-back.

There is some concern at City as their current four full-backs – Bacary Sagna, Pablo Zabaleta, Aleksandar Kolarov and Gael Clichy – are all in their 30s.

The versatile Alaba can also play at right-back, as a wing-back and also in midfield.

Another potential target for Guardiola, who replaces Manuel Pellegrini in the summer, is Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud.

Syria-born Dahoud, 20, played against City in the Champions League this season and is a Germany international at Under-19s level.

He is regarded as one of the outstanding prospects in the Bundesliga and Guardiola has seen him at close quarters against his Bayern side.

City could also move for Everton’s John Stones, 21, in the summer to boost their defensive cover.
