Greenock Morton 2 - 0 Dumbarton: Morton stop rot to sink Dumbarton
Posted Sunday, February 14, 2016 by PA
Morton recorded their first league victory since November after beating Dumbarton 2-0.
Denny Johnstone and Joe McKee netted the goals as Morton ended their seven-match winless streak in the Championship.
Morton started with a bang and hit the woodwork twice in the opening 10 minutes through McKee and Declan McManus, while Thomas O'Ware was also denied by visiting goalkeeper Jamie Ewings.
Dumbarton responded with a Gregor Buchanan effort that brought a good save from Andy McNeil before Morton came close again when Johnstone headed Bobby Barr's cross just wide.
Johnstone may feel he should have done better with that chance, but he made no mistake in the 64th minute, slotting home from six yards out to put the hosts ahead.
Dumbarton, who started the day three points behind sixth-placed Morton, tried to find an equaliser, but Grant Gallagher and Tom Walsh could not make the most of their chances and McKee wrapped up Morton's win after slotting home a McManus cross two minutes from time.
