David de Gea 'offered £66.7m deal' to leave Man Utd for Real Madrid
De Gea has since signed a new contract at Manchester United

David de Gea stood to earn £66.7m if his move from Manchester United to Real Madrid had gone through, according to a document released by whistle-blowing website Football Leaks.

The Spain goalkeeper was close to joining Madrid on the final day of the summer transfer window, but a failure to complete the required paperwork before the deadline saw the deal collapse.

The document claims De Gea would have signed a six-year contract at the Bernabeu and received £9m-a-year in wages as well as a £8.4m signing-on fee.

Real Madrid and Manchester United have refused to comment on the document.

In September, De Gea signed a new four-year contract with United, believed to be worth in the region of £200,000-a-week.

As part of the new deal, United have the option to extend the 24-year-old's stay at Old Trafford by a further year.

United and Madrid released lengthy statements blaming one another for the collapse of De Gea's proposed transfer to the Spanish capital.

Madrid were the first to issue a statement and suggested the transfer for De Gea broke down after United stalled on opening talks and then delayed processing  documents for Keylor Navas, the Costa Rica goalkeeper they who was set to move to Old Trafford as part of the deal.

United responded by claiming the deal failed to go through because Madrid did not upload De Gea's documents onto the FIFA Transfer Matching System before the deadline.
