Stevenage recorded a first win in 10 games as they claimed a 2-1 win at Hartlepool.
Under the command of academy chief Darren Sarll following the sacking of Teddy Sheringham, Boro comfortably led 2-0 at Victoria Park before seeing the game out with some dogged defending and good fortune.
Home goalkeeper Trevor Carson made two fine early saves. First he kept out a powerful Aaron O'Connor header, before denying Charlie Lee when his low finish looked destined for the net in the 11th minute.
Pools midfielder Carl Magnay was denied by a flying Jamie Jones save, before Boro took the lead on the stroke of half-time.
Ronnie Henry charged forward, fed Tom Conlon and the substitute cut across the penalty area and rifled a shot high into the net.
The lead was doubled after 51 minutes as Conlon tapped into an empty net from close range after being teed-up by Dean Parrett.
Pools responded with a volleyed finish from skipper Billy Paynter - his eighth goal of the season - in the 68th minute.
He had a shot cleared off the line by Tom Pett and then Jones made a stunning stop to push out a Jordan Richards volley.
But Pools have now lost eight times at Victoria Park this season and remain third bottom of League Two.
