Port Vale substitute Sam Kelly rifled a brilliant equaliser seven minutes from time to earn his team a richly deserved point in an entertaining 1-1 home draw against Coventry.
The home side made the early running against a nervous visiting defence with Reice Charles-Cook saving from Ajay Leitch-Smith and Theo Robinson.
And the Coventry 'keeper saved his team again in the 29th minute after the lively Leitch-Smith broke free from Robinson's pass to fire a low shot from 14 yards.
Vale 'keeper Jak Alnwick was a spectator until the 39th minute when Adam Armstrong dribbled past three defenders to strike a shot that was comfortably saved.
But Alnwick was retrieving the ball from his net two minutes later after Jacob Murphy opened the scoring.
Murphy played a one-two with Armstrong before taking the ball around Alnwick and sliding a low right-foot shot into the middle of an empty net from three yards.
The impressive Charles-Cook made another fine reflex save from Leitch-Smith in the 55th minute and an even better one from Carl Dickinson's deflected free-kick shortly afterwards.
But Vale rightly levelled through Kelly when he picked the ball up 30 yards out and drove a left-footed shot from 30 yards which flashed high into the top right-hand corner of Charles-Cook's net.
