Patrick Viera has been lined up as Pep Guardiola's successor at Manchester City
Guardiola’s arrival in the summer is a coup for his former Barcelona colleagues, Etihad chief executive Ferran Soriano and director of football Txiki Begiristain.
But they know the Spaniard is unlikely to remain at City beyond his three-year contract and are keen to nurture Vieira.
The battling midfielder ended his playing career at City, headed their elite development squad and is now in charge at their New York City franchise in the MLS.
City’s managing director of football services, Brian Marwood, is also a fan, saying recently: “Hopefully, at some point he’ll come back and manage Manchester City. That’s the ambition for him and for us.”
