Cambridge United 1 - 0 Dagenham and Redbridge: Luke Berry is spot on for Cambridge
Posted Sunday, February 07, 2016 by PA
Luke Berry's late penalty earned Cambridge a 1-0 win against struggling Dagenham.
The key moment came eight minutes from time when Robbie Simpson was brought down in the box by Joe Worrall. Captain Berry sent goalkeeper Mark Cousins the wrong way with the resulting spot-kick.
Cousins had excelled, having saved well from James Dunne moments before the goal.
Christian Doidge headed a good chance wide for the visitors early on, and in difficult windy conditions Ashley Hemmings' cross from a wide position was clawed away by Cambridge stopper Will Norris, with Josh Coulson blocking the rebound from Ashley Chambers on the line.
Ten minutes before the interval Harrison Dunk led a Cambridge break and played in Berry, who was denied by an excellent save by Cousins.
With the wind in their favour after half-time, Ryan Ledson replicated Hemmings in drawing a save with a deep cross that nearly flew in, while Jimmy Spencer fired wide when Ben Williamson flicked a long throw into his path.
