NEXT: Will Conte be the next Chelsea boss?

The meeting between Conte and Chelsea’s top brass is understood to have been held in London towards the end of last month.

Conte in high on Roman Abramovich’s list of candidates to replace interim boss Guus Hiddink, along with Juventus coach Massimiliano Alegri and Manchester City’s Manuel Pellegrini.

Both Conte and Pellegrini will both be available this summer as the Italian’s contract with his country is up after Euro 2016 and the Chilean is being replaced at City by Bayern Munich’s Pep Guardiola.

Alegri has one more full season with Juve, who are on a staggering run of 17 successive wins, including a victory over Pellegrini’s City in the Champions League.

But Starsport understands Conte is the more favoured option for the Stamford Bridge club.

Chelsea are attracted by the fact Conte set the foundations for Alegri by reviving the Turin-based team prior to taking over as Italy boss in August 2014.

Much will depend on how big an effort the Azzuri make to keep Conte at the helm. Juve are believed to have earmarked Pellegrini to replace Alegri if he moves to west London.
