Dele Alli has been one of the Premier League's best players this season
At 19 years of age, and with just 21 Premier League appearances to his name, the Tottenham midfielder announced he is ready for Euro 2016.
A stunning second-half goal capped a hugely impressive all-round performance that helped Spurs to a well-earned triumph and moved them to fourth in the table.
With Hodgson watching from the stands, a gripping contest was locked at 1-1 with 84 minutes on the clock. Alli then controlled the ball with his instep, flicked it over Mile Jedinak's head and volleyed home from 25 yards in one smooth movement. It was Alli's sixth goal in a remarkable first season in the top flight following his £5million switch from MK Dons.
His team-mate Nacer Chadli, who came on as a second-half substitute and sealed victory with a well-taken third goal, believes Alli is ready to shine on the international stage.
"Unbelievable - Dele's goal was fantastic," said Chadli. "It was a nice volley, it was unbelievable to see. I cannot think of a better goal from a team-mate in any game I have been involved in."
"Dele does volleys in training and is always scoring nice goals. He gets himself in good positions in training and you can see that in the games."
Spurs player mobbed Dele Alli after his stunning goal at Selhurst Park
"I am very impressed with him. It seems like he has a lot of experience and he's a very young player with a lot of potential. He's working hard and he will be a great player."
"He is a very skillful player and he's got everything in his locker. But he is still young so he has to work hard but he knows that so that's good."
"The way he is playing this season he is going to be picked for England and after it is then up to him to show his quality. He can do it in the Premier League and also European Championships."
"Deli is a very nice lad, always smiling. I have a very good relationship with him, he's a very good guy."
Alan Pardew's side slipped to 11th and have scored just once - Vertonghen's own goal - in their last six matches.
Midfielder Joe Ledley said: "We just need to concentrate on ourselves and get back on track. We created a few chances - on another day a couple of those would have gone in. But it didn't happen. We just need that one win and hopefully we can go on a run."
