Match Summary

Strikes from Sergio Aguero, Kelechi Iheanacho and substitute Kevin De Bruyne sealed the win for the Sky Blues, although Norwich kept going and almost pulled one back late on through Kyle Lafferty.

Manuel Pellegrini’s City side are still on for an unlikely quadruple, while Alex Neil’s Norwich can concentrate fully on their bid to stay in the Premier League.

The hosts had the first decent chance when Norwich midfielder Jonny Howson fired wide, with Argentina striker Aguero doing the same at the other end.

But Aguero made no mistake in the 16th minute when he netted into the bottom corner following good work from Raheem Sterling.

Russell Martin had a shot blocked and Graham Dorrans saw an effort saved by Willy Caballero as Norwich tried to find an equaliser.

But Man City doubled their advantage on 31 minutes when youngster Iheanacho fired in from inside the box.

Early in the second half, Iheanacho had an effort saved before Sterling's shot was blocked by the Norwich defence.

De Bruyne came on for Sterling on 61 minutes as the visitors looked for a third.

Norwich, meanwhile, brought on Nathan Redmond, Gary O’Neil and Lafferty as they looked for a way back into the game.

But it was Man City who cranked up the pressure, Jesus Navas hitting the post in the 73rd minute.

However, five minutes later the Citizens got their third goal. Navas teed up De Bruyne and the Belgian playmaker fired in from a difficult angle on the right.

Norwich had a great chance to pull one back soon after but Lafferty’s close-range header was saved by Willy Caballero as the men from Manchester kept a clean sheet and progressed into the next round.
