Sheffield Wed. 4 - 1 Wolves: Fernando Forestieri at the double as Sheffield Wednesday increase Wolves' misery

Sheffield Wednesday came from behind to beat out of form Wolves 4-1 in the Skybet Championship, ending a run of five games without a win.

The impressive Fernando Forestieri scored twice with Daniel Pudil and Gary Hooper also on target for the hosts after Benik Afobe's penalty put Wolves in front.

Wednesday keeper Keiren Westwood had to be alert to the danger early on when Afobe broke into the area, coming off his line to collect the ball.

Wednesday's first chance of the game fell to Forestieri, whose attempted curling effort was easily saved by Carl Ikeme.

James Henry chipped just over for the visitors and Kevin McDonald had a shot blocked before Wolves took the lead through Afobe's 16th-minute spot-kick, which was awarded when Matt Doherty was fouled by Ross Wallace.

Wednesday were also awarded a penalty four minutes later, scored by Forestieri, after Lucas Joao went down inside the area following a combined challenge involving Danny Batth.

Forestieri (25) scored again to put the home side in front, beating Ikeme with a deflected shot after an attempted clearance fell to him inside the area.

Nathan Byrne wasted a good chance to equalise, heading over from close range after getting on the end of a cross from Jordan Graham.

Wednesday also had opportunities to add to their tally before the interval.

Ikeme saved from both Joao and Forestieri before the ball fell to Wallace - who put the follow-up wide of the target, while Joao also tested Ikeme with a shot which the keeper touched onto his post.

Forestieri shot straight at Ikeme shortly after the restart before Wednesday extended their lead when a cross from the left was cleared only as far as Pudil (59), who beat Ikeme with a measured shot from the edge of the area.

With their opponents looking increasingly vulnerable, Wednesday went in search of a fourth goal.

When Ikeme raced out of his area, Forestieri had the unguarded net in his sights but the Italian's curling effort from an acute angle went just over the bar.

Barry Bannan was the next to try his luck, firing a long-range effort just over.

Forestieri had further chances to complete his hat-trick, shooting wide after making a good run into the left-hand side of the area and then blasting well over from a promising position.

Wolves came close to pulling a goal back when Ethan Ebanks-Landell saw his header cleared off the line by Jack Hunt.

Henry also had an effort off-target, following up after Graham's delivery was headed away only as far as him.

Hooper completed the scoring in the 90th minute after substitute Atdhe Nuhiu slipped the ball through to him inside the area.

The result means Wolves have now won just once in their last eight outings.
