Angers SCO 1 - 1 Bordeaux: Late Romain Thomas equaliser helps Angers reclaim second spot

Angers secured the point necessary to reclaim second place in Ligue 1 following a 1-1 draw with Bordeaux.

Despite falling behind to Diego Rolan's first-half strike, Romain Thomas' late equaliser saw the hosts move ahead of Monaco on goal difference, stretching their unbeaten run to five games.

Both sides had opportunities inside the opening 20 minutes but Bordeaux's Wahbi Khazri had an effort saved well by Ludovic Butelle before his opposite number Cedric Carrasso did superbly to turn away Billy Ketkeophomphone's near-post strike at the other end.

The visitors continued to dominate and after Enzo Crivelli broke clear on goal an opener seemed likely but, after the striker took a tumble under a Butelle challenge, all he got for his troubles was a yellow card for simulation.

However moments later Les Girondins did get their goal when Jaroslav Plasil's pinpoint delivery found Rolan and the Uruguay international dispatched a well-placed header beyond Butelle for the game's opener.

Angers began to grow into the game as the second half progressed and were agonisingly close to levelling on 77 minutes when Ketkeophomphone's corner caused panic in the six-yard box before Carrasso finally gathered after Andre Poko almost netted in his own goal.

The hosts, though, managed to get their goal when Thomas was allowed the freedom of the Bordeaux area from another Ketkeophomphone corner to beat Carrasso to the ball for the leveller.
