Arsenal transfer news: South American target at risk of PSG axe after substitution strop

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani may have come to the end of the road at the Parc des Princes after he threw something a tantrum after being substituted in the match against Troyes.

PSG easily overcame the Ligue 1 strugglers, with Cavani, Layvin Kurzawa, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Jean-Kevin Augustin all finding the net in a comfortable rout.

Ahead of the match, Cavani had been warned about his lack of goals by PSG coach Laurent Blanc, and while he responded with a fine strike—a deft volley following a sublime cross by Angel Di Maria—he reacted badly when he was substituted by Blanc on 80 minutes.

Speaking after the match, the PSG coach confirmed that Cavani’s prima-donna attitude would not be tolerated, and that if the club’s big stars didn’t toe the line, he had replacements lined up.

As reported by ESPN, Blanc confirmed that he would be willing to play youngsters if the big-name players didn’t live up to their billing and their responsibilities.

''Cavani wasn’t very happy, I can confirm that,” Blanc began. “But they are never happy and I can understand that.

''If established players have no motivation, we will play young people,” he continued. “They will be happy to play, but I think the established players that I have are currently serious.”

Blanc’s willingness to potentially drop Cavani and use kids in his place may come as good news to Arsene Wenger, with Arsenal reportedly keen on signing the

Fichajes [as per the Metro] note that Cavani is one of the Gunners’ preferred targets, and that the club are willing to move for the Uruguayan during the January transfer window.

While Arsenal were unwilling to meet PSG’s evaluation of the player during the summer, his changing status at the Parc des Princes may prompt the North London giants to reconsider the situation.
