Sunderland will be looking to build on their win over Crystal Palace when they host Stoke City to the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Jermain Defoe netted the only goal of the game after capitalising on a defensive mix-up to give Sunderland a much-needed win at Selhurst Park.

The Black Cats, though, are still languishing down in 18th position with just nine points from their first 13 games of the season.

A poor start to their season resulted in Dick Advocaat's departure and Sam Allardyce's arrival. In Allardyce's first five games, though, Sunderland have lost three games and won just two.

In team news, the Black Cats are sweating over the fitness of Defoe after he limped off in the win over Palace on Monday.

Fabio Borini, though, is back in training and could make his return, but defender Billy Jones is suspended.

Stoke, meanwhile, are on a great run of form and are unbeaten in their last four games, while they have lost just once in their last 10 games.

Their good run of form has seen them steadily climb the table and they currently find themselves in 11th position.

Manager Mark Hughes can welcome Xherdan Shaqiri back from a hamstring injury, but Philipp Wollscheid is a doubt with a pelvis problem.
