Sevilla's hopes of reaching the Champions League knock-out stages ended in Germany with a 4-2 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach.
The hosts kept alive their hopes of a third-place finish in Group D and Europa League football as they stormed into a commanding lead, courtesy of strikes from Lars Stindl, Fabian Johnson and Raffael.
Vitolo pulled one back for Sevilla but Stindl immediately restored the three-goal cushion, before Ever Banega's injury-time penalty for the Spaniards.
Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico was worked early on by Ibrahima Traore's deflected effort and a stinging shot from Raffael, while at the other end Yann Sommer denied Yevhen Konoplyanka.
The first goal came after 29 minutes when Stindl squeezed the ball past Rico at his near post.
Sommer preserved Borussia's lead at the start of the second half when he blocked Grzegorz Krychowiak's header.
Rico did brilliantly to react to Granit Xhaka's 20-yard shot to keep out the ball, but he was beaten in the 68th minute by Johnson's lovely curling shot.
Sommer denied Konoplyanka again before a flurry of goals, beginning with Raffael sliding the ball beneath Rico from Stindl's pass with 78 minutes on the clock.
Vitolo beat the offside trap to pull a goal back for Sevilla after 82 minutes, but Stindl blasted a shot into the roof of the net immediately afterwards to make it 4-1.
Banega completed the scoring from the penalty spot after Xhaka pulled down Krychowiak.
