Wolfsburg 6 - 0 Werder Bremen: Ruthless Wolves put Werder Bremen to the sword

Wolfsburg hit Werder Bremen for six at the Volkswagen-Arena to close the gap on second-placed Borussia Dortmund to five points.

An Alejandro Galvez own goal set the Wolves on their way to victory, with Max Kruse adding a second just before half-time.

Vieirinha, Josuha Guilavogui, Bas Dost and Kruse again completed the rout as Bremen put up little resistance with some awful defending.

The hosts, looking to capitalise on Dortmund's slip-up on Friday, took little time to put Felix Wiedwald in the Bremen goal under pressure, and they needed a little over 10 minutes before they found a way through.

Christian Trasch's cross from the right was met by Galvez on the edge of his six-yard box, but the Bremen defender contrived to turn the ball into his own net rather than away to safety.

Luiz Gustavo hit a post with a header, but the Brazilian's afternoon ended soon after with a back injury forcing him off, Guilavogui taking his place.

The tone of the game did not alter, with Wolfsburg pressing and probing, and they managed to grab a second just before half-time when Kruse headed in Vieirinha's cross.

Only 10 minutes into the second half the hosts put the result beyond doubt.

Marcel Schafer's cross was met at the far post by the unmarked Vieirinha, who punished Bremen for their weak defending with Wolfsburg's third.

Guilavogui got in on the act midway through the second half, with fellow substitute Andre Schurrle teeing him up from the wing.

Dost added the fifth from close range before Kruse completed the scoring three minutes from time as Wolfsburg emphasised their superiority at the VW-Arena..
