It was a frustrating evening for Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller

Eintracht Frankfurt became the first German side to take points off Bayern Munich this season thanks to a 0-0 draw at the Waldstadion.

Pep Guardiola's men came into the game seeking an 11th straight win in the league this season, but they left with only a point after a strong defensive performance from the hosts.

Bayern had the better chances but there was no way through a solid Frankfurt defence, who helped their side pick up a much-needed point that few had reckoned with prior to kick-off, given Bayern's dominant form this season.

Guardiola resisted the temptation to make too many changes to his side, although Thomas Muller was left on the bench with Arjen Robben back after being rested for the midweek DFB-Pokal win over Wolfsburg.

Little changed in Bayern's approach, though, as they dominated possession almost at will, and their first chance came after 11 minutes when Arturo Vidal tested Lukas Hradecky with a header.

It proved to be Bayern's best chance of a first half in which the hosts frustrated their guests, but did not get the opportunity to break and do any damage.

Douglas Costa came close to breaking the deadlock just 10 seconds into the second half but his shot was saved well by Hradecky.

Robben squandered two half-chances before Frankfurt saw their first sight of goal, with Haris Seferovic finding Alexander Meier in the centre but he failed to find the target.

Frankfurt coach Armin Veh had warned on the eve of the game that his side would have to be clinical with any chance they got and the failure to take this opportunity proved him right in his wisdom.

The Hessian club failed to create any more opportunities and were fortunate not to concede with just under 10 minutes to go when Robben lifted the ball over the defence and Robert Lewandowski missed the target.

Bayern raised their game further with the clock ticking down and, with Muller now on the field, their goalscoring threat increased.

The German chested the ball down intelligently for David Alaba to blaze his shot over, symptomatic of Bayern's night.

Lewandowski did find the back of the net in the last minute, but the offside flag was raised to deny him.

Muller wanted a penalty in time added on when he went down under the challenge of Carlos Zambrano but the referee waved away his appeal as Bayern, for the first time this season, had to accept only a point and see their winning start to the season come to an end.
