Bayern Munich 4 - 0 Koln: Bayern Munich go 10 points clear in Bundesliga with convincing win

Bayern Munich opened up a 10-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga as their 4-0 victory over Cologne at the Allianz Arena was their 10th straight league win from the start of the season, and their 1,000th all-time win in the division.

Arjen Robben, making his return after almost two months out injured, opened the scoring in a convincing success for Pep Guardiola's men.

Arturo Vidal, Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller, the latter from the penalty spot, completed the rout as Bayern underlined their superiority in German football.

Robben was back in the Bayern team for the first time since the end of August, playing with both Kingsley Coman and Douglas Costa, who had been Guardiola's chosen wingers during the Dutchman's injury-enforced absence.

After over half an hour in which Cologne frustrated their hosts with their defensive game, Bayern finally made the breakthrough with Robben picking up a loose ball inside the Cologne penalty area before proving he has not lost any of his sharpness during his break with a cool finish.

Cologne had to abandon their defensive approach and this played into Bayern's hands, with Vidal doubling their lead five minutes before the break.

Coman took the ball past Marcel Risse before setting up his former Juventus team-mate, whose shot took a deflection on its way past Timo Horn.

Bayern were already starting to take things easily at the start of the second half, without running any risk of conceding.

Cologne were back playing defensively, this time not in the hope of getting a point but more the determination not to concede more goals.

Lewandowski still made it three after an hour, heading in Douglas' cross to put the result beyond any lingering doubt.

The Pole could have had a second moments later, but Horn denied him before a foul by Dominic Maroh on the forward gave Muller the chance to make it four.

The Germany international made no mistake and sent his shot into the right-hand corner of Horn's goal.

All that remained was for Bayern to play down the clock on a landmark win, the perfect response to their first defeat of the season at Arsenal in midweek.
