Wolves 0 - 2 Brentford: Marco Djuricin and Philipp Hofmann on target as Bees sting Wolves

Marco Djuricin and Philipp Hofmann were on target as Brentford secured back to back Sky Bet Championship victories with a convincing 2-0 victory over Wolves at Molineux.

Djuricin, who is on a season-long loan from RB Salzburg, struck after 17 minutes with Hofmann setting the seal on the win two minutes from time to earn caretaker manager Lee Carsley his second win in three games following the departure of Marinus Dijkhuizen last month.

It was also only Brentford's fourth win of the season, but a deserved one against an out-of-sorts Wolves side who slipped to their second successive defeat.

Wolves had been seeking to cut the six-point gap between themselves and the play-offs, but they looked to be suffering a hangover from last weekend's 4-2 reverse at Derby County that had brought their four game unbeaten run in the Championship to an end.

Buoyed by the victory in their last match against Rotherham, Brentford made a sparkling start with Alan Judge seeing his free-kick deflected wide before Djuricin was denied at his near post by goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Wolves struggled to gain a foothold in the game until a surging 14th minute run by striker Benik Afobe was ended by a challenge on the edge of the area by Jake Bidwell that earned the Brentford skipper a yellow card.

James Henry saw the resulting free-kick blocked and that moment of menace proved to be a false dawn for Wolves.

Brentford were still the more incisive side going forward and they were rewarded for the positive approach when Djuricin broke the deadlock with a neat close-range finish.

Djuricin was expertly picked out in the area by a floated through ball from Judge.

The Austrian international latched on to the pass before seeing his shot deflected past Martinez and just inside the left-hand post.

Wolves struggled to mount a meaningful response to Djuricin's strike and the closest that they came to grabbing an equaliser in a disjointed first-half display was when Sheyi Ojo cut in from the left-wing and forced goalkeeper David Button to beat away his fierce angled drive.

Wolves' manager Kenny Jackett tried to shake up his side in the opening stages of the second-half by taking off Ojo and Henry and sending on Jack Price and Rajiv van La Parra in a double change.

While Wolves did manage to enjoy more possession, finding a way past a Brentford defence in which Tarkowski and Harlee Dean stood out, proved to be hard.

They were, in fact, fortunate not to fall further behind when Martinez miscontrolled the ball on the goalline in the 69th minute under pressure from Judge before collecting it at the second attempt.

Wolves should really have capitalised in that let-off six minutes later only to be let down by their finishing. Adam Le Fondre was well placed on the edge of the six-yard box only to see his shot blocked.

The rebound flew to Afobe but he could not keep his shot from 10 yards down and it sailed aimlessly over the bar.

Brentford cashed in on that let-off when Hofmann, who had been denied seconds earlier, raced into the boxa to collect a header from John Swift and calmly took the ball around Martinez before finishing into an empty net.
