Manchester City looking to muscle in on Arsenal target Grzegorz Krychowiak

Manchester City are reportedly keen on bolstering their midfield options ahead of the 2016/17 campaign and have taken an interest in Sevilla star Grzegorz Krychowiak, a player who has been regularly linked with Arsenal for a number of months.

According to the Daily Telegraph, City boss Manuel Pellegrini has identified the Polish midfield anchor as a possible target for either the January or summer transfer window.

The two-time Premier League champions will get a chance to see Krychowiak at close quarters when they host Sevilla at the Etihad Stadium in the Champions League this week, with another clash against the Spanish club scheduled for early November.

It is thought that the former Bordeaux and Reims player has a release clause of €30m, which equates to around £22m. Rumours over the summer suggested that Arsenal were very interested, but the Gunners ultimately opted to rely on Francis Coquelin for their defensive midfield needs.

City are already well stocked in attacking midfield options, but lack enough cover in deeper lying roles. Fernando hasn't managed to live up to expectations since his move from Porto last summer, while 32-year-old Yaya Toure's latest outburst would suggest he is still unhappy after being "90% certain" to leave the club just a few months ago.

Fabian Delph was signed from Aston Villa for £8m in July, but skeptics remain unsure of his ability to establish himself, while his injury record since arriving has been nothing short of terrible.

Krychowiak's reputation has been steadily growing ever since he moved to Sevilla for just €4.5m at the start in July 2014. He helped the Andalucians to a second consecutive 5th place finish in La Liga and more impressively a second consecutive Europa League triumph.

On the international stage, Krychowiak is part of a talented generation of Polish players and was a key member of the squad that recently booked an automatic place at Euro 2016 in France next year.
