The derby between Bury and Rochdale ended goalless as both defences held firm at Gigg Lane in their Sky Bet League One fixture.

Neither side could find a breakthrough on the day, but the Shakers can console themselves with the fact that they are now unbeaten in 10 league games.

The hosts came closest to scoring in a goalless first period.

Skipper Nathan Cameron headed narrowly over the top in the early stages before Rochdale goalkeeper Josh Lillis produced a wonderful double stop in the 43rd minute from Leon Clarke and Tom Soares.

Peter Vincenti wasted Rochdale's best chance when failing to convert Scott Tanser's cross from close range while Soares also saw a shot bravely blocked by Rochdale defender Olly Lancashire.

Just before the hour mark it looked as though Soares was about to break the deadlock for Bury only for ex-Shakers defender Jim McNulty to produce a superb block.

Tom Pope then headed Joe Riley's free-kick over the crossbar as the hosts were on top.

Leon Clarke thought he had nicked victory for Bury with eight minutes to go but his point-blank header was superbly saved by Lillis as the two sides shared the spoils.
