Juventus and Roma interested in Mathieu Debuchy

Serie A duo Juventus and Roma are set to offer Mathieu Debuchy an escape route from his misery at Arsenal, as reported by Calciomercato.

The right-back, who joined Arsenal from Newcastle United in 2014, was left out of the latest France squad after losing his place in the Gunners’ side to youngster Hector Bellerin.

Mathieu Debuchy has had to settle for being a substitute for most of this season.

Debuchy has struggled when called upon this season, and was particularly woeful against Tottenham in the Capital One Cup last month.

The 30-year-old still has over three years remaining on his current contract at the club, but is believed to be extremely unhappy with his current situation, previously suggesting that he considered leaving Arsenal when he was left out of the starting line-up for the Community Shield in August, as reported by L’Equipe (via the Guardian).

Debuchy’s first season at Arsenal was hampered by injury, as he made just 14 appearances in all competitions.

The Frenchman had previously established himself as a reliable performer when at Newcastle, but it seems unlikely that he will be able to regain his place from Bellerin in the near future, such is the talent of the young Spaniard. As a result of that, Debuchy could move on to either of the reported interested Champions League clubs.

There’s also a possibility that Arsenal may elect to enable Carl Jenkinson to compete with Bellerin next season. The England international is currently on his second loan spell with West Ham United, but signed a new contract with Arsenal in the summer.
