Barca star Lionel Messi's brother, Matías, has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm, according to Cadena 3.
The Argentinian TV news channel claims that an unlicensed .22-calibre gun was found when Matias Messi's Audi A5 was searched by police on Saturday. The events took place in the south of the city of Rosario, where the family hail from and continue to reside.
Matias, who allegedly initially resisted the officers' attempts to search the vehicle and refused to produce the car registration documents, was taken to the police station, where he spent four hours before being released. It remains to be seen what further punishment he will face.
The Barcelona forward's often outspoken sibling was involved in a similar incident in October 2008, being arrested in Rosario on that occasion when he was spotted carrying a gun in a holster.
