Man Utd News: Shock free transfer, Liverpool hero's shock keeper claim, midfielder surgery
Victor Valdes and David De Gea

United outcast Victor Valdes could put an end to his Old Trafford nightmare with a January move to Sevilla.

The Champions League side are believed to have opened talks with United over a free transfer for the shot-stopper in the winter window, claim Mundo Deportivo.

Sevilla are in the market for a keeper after second-choice Beto suffered an injury and with continued concerns over first-choice stopper Sergio Rico, the La Liga club are considering Valdes as an option to provide competition.

Ex-Liverpool man David James claims goalkeeper David De Gea “doesn’t help Manchester United” as much as Sergio Romero can.

''When he [De Gea] plays Manchester United do let in quite a few goals,” James told Star Sports.

''Romero starts the season with three clean sheets. People were questioning why De Gea wasn’t playing, then he comes back and has one clean sheet.

Asked whether he feels De Gea is not commanding enough, James said: “I think he makes some wonderful saves; he’s very athletic.

"But I think, in the bigger picture of the goalkeeping art, he doesn’t help Manchester United as much as perhaps Romero can."

United youngster Joe Rothell may be forced to have surgery in order to remove his tonsils, according to the Barnsley Chronicle.

The midfielder, currently on loan at Barnsley, has been battling with tonsillitis.

Barnsley boss Lee Johnson said: “Joe Rothwell has been ill with tonsillitis. At the moment he is fighting through it but he may have to have his tonsils taken out so we may lose him for a month or so.”
