Tottenham star Hugo Lloris: I desired a move to Manchester United this summer

HUGO LLORIS has hinted he wanted to join Manchester United this summer - but insists he is happy to remain at Tottenham.

The French star was one of several goalkeepers linked with a move to Old Trafford as a possible replacement for David De Gea.

De Gea was tipped to move to Real Madrid all summer and the Spanish club agreed a £29m fee with United on Monday.

But the deal collapsed at the last moment when the relevant paperwork was not submitted before the Spanish transfer deadline.

And when asked about the links with United ahead of France's friendly with Portugal, Lloris suggested De Gea remaining with the Red Devils for another season had impacted on his 'desired' move.

"A lot of things were said and written," the 28-year-old said.

"There could have been a development there but the desired movement didn't happen.

"I have a lot of affection for Tottenham. I feel respected, I have a very good relationship with the staff and I'm ready to play the best season possible."

Lloris joined Tottenham for £8m in the summer of 2012 and signed a new five-year contract with the club last year.
