Chesterfield vs Wigan Athletic preview - Spireites stunned by Martinez injury blow ahead of Wigan clash

Chesterfield were dealt a big injury blow ahead of the visit of Wigan with the news that Angel Martinez will miss the next six months with knee ligament damage.

The Spanish midfielder, who joined the club last month, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in training this week.

Another change to the team which started the 2-0 win against Millwall last Saturday is necessary as winger Gboly Ariyibi is away on international duty with the USA Under-23 squad.

However, Lee Novak will return to the side after concussion ruled him out at The Den and right-back Drew Talbot may also be fit after an ankle knock.

Wigan could include new signings Haris Vukic, Andy Kellet and Jack Hendry for the trip as they look to kick-start their season.

The trio signed on deadline day and Vukic, who arrived on a season-long loan from Newcastle, is keen to show boss Gary Caldwell what he can do.

He told the club's official site: "I'm very happy to be here and I'm looking forward to the challenge. I came here to play football and to show myself."

Wigan are without Will Grigg, who is on international duty with Northern Ireland, while Grant Holt and Tim Chow have stepped up their returns from injury but this game could come too soon for the duo.
