CHELSEA new boy Michael Hector's defensive qualities are reminiscent of England legend Bobby Moore, a former boss has revealed.

Jamaica international Hector, 23, completed a shock £4m move from Reading to the Premier League champions on transfer deadline day.

He only made his Royals debut in January 2014 after 11 loans spells at clubs ranging from non-league Horsham to Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen.

He played 11 times during his short spell at Horsham and his boss at the time, John Maggs, saw enough to draw comparisons to the 1966 World Cup winning captain.

"I can see a bit of Bobby Moore in him," Maggs, 72, told Starsport.

"His anticipation of making a tackle was excellent, he always took up good positions, could read the game well, see the dangers and his timing of the tackle is the resemblance of Bobby Moore.

"Even at that young age you could see that he's got all the potential in the world.

"I was ever so grateful to Reading, he had 11 games for me and was excellent."

Hector has immediately been loaned back to the Royals and Maggs thinks his quality will have attracted the champions' scouting network.

"They're no mugs at Chelsea," he said. "They obviously see the quality in the boy, which I could see very early doors at Horsham.

"The boy was brought up properly, his dad's a real gent and I couldn't be more pleased for him. It's made my day really."
