Saido Berahino threatens to go on strike after laying into Jeremy Peace

SAIDO BERAHINO last night threatened to go on strike after slamming West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace.

Berahino declared war on Peace via Twitter after Albion refused to allow him to move to Spurs.

And the 22-year-old seemed to suggest he would down tools after being denied the chance to head for London.

"Sad how I can't say exactly how the club has treated me," he tweeted. "But I can officially say I will never play Jeremy Peace."

The response came after the Baggies had rejected two more bids from Tottenham on the final day of the transfer window.

Peace then hit out at Spurs chairman Daniel Levy in a West Brom statement, accusing the London club of unsettling Berahino with their four August bids, the last of which could have netted the Baggies up to £22.5m.

Peace said: "We have a key player who has been very unsettled by antics which were designed to get him out of our club cheaply.

"Those tactics have continued despite my making our position clear in my first conversation with Daniel Levy on this subject in mid-August.

"I said selling Saido so late in the window was not on our agenda.

"Saido has been unsettled to the point where our head coach has not felt able to select him for our last three games.

"We are now left with the task of repairing the damage created by this unfortunate episode."

West Brom will fine Berahino for the tweet but will not act further unless he goes through with his apparent strike threat.

Peace was angered by Spurs' bids, which were all broken down into installments which would have netted West Brom a tiny up-front windfall.

The Albion chairman has history of standing firm on deadline day, after refusing to sell Peter Odemwingie to QPR in 2013 despite the Nigerian driving to QPR to force through a move.

Peace held face-to-face talks with Berahino last week after the former England under-21 striker submitted a written transfer request.

Berahino has been at West Brom since the age of 11 after arriving in England from war-torn Burundi.
