DAVID DE GEA'S move to Real Madrid looks to have sensationally fallen through, after it failed to beat the Spanish transfer deadline.
The goalkeeper was set to leave Manchester United in a £29m deal that included Real's Keylor Navas going the other way.
The fee had been agreed and the transfer was set to be announced.
But now, in a stunning twist, that deal appears to be off.
It is understood that the vital documents did not arrive in time to complete De Gea's transfer.
Spanish football expect Guillem Balague tweeted: "The documents did not arrive on time!!!!!! Presentation was ready. All agreed. But as it stands de Gea stays at MUFC!!"
OFF: De Gea will stay at United
De Gea has been linked with Real all summer long.
United boss Louis van Gaal has opted not to pick the 24-year-old yet this season, saying the Spaniard has lost his focus.
De Gea's Red Devils contract is due to expire in 2016 and he had looked to have got his move to Spain.
But, with the deal crumbling at the last minute, De Gea is said to be 'distraught' and could be made to wait until at least January to complete his move away.
