Coventry vs Southend United preview - James Maddison missing for Coventry City

Coventry are without James Maddison for Monday night's visit of Southend after the youngster was ruled out until January with an ankle injury.

The midfielder suffered the problem in last Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Walsall and could be missing until the new year.

Right-back Jordan Willis also requires an operation on his knee injury and faces two months on the sidelines.

Aaron Phillips will replace Willis and on-loan Jacob Murphy stood in for Maddison and scored their consolation at the Banks's Stadium.

Stephen McLaughlin is set to feature for Southend after signing from Nottingham Forest.

The winger penned a two-year deal on Thursday to return to Roots Hall after he helped the Shrimpers to promotion from Sky Bet League Two last season.

Boss Phil Brown is hopeful of also bringing in a defender with Adam Thompson and Cian Bolger (both shoulder) sidelined.

He told the Southend Echo: "Adam Thompson is not likely to be available for selection until the start of October and we're still waiting to see how Cian Bolger's shoulder injury settles down so it's important we act."
