Paul Pogba's astronomical Chelsea wage demands revealed

PAUL POGBA has told Chelsea he wants to be paid a staggering £318,000 A WEEK to join them.

The champions have bid a British record £73m for the Juventus midfielder.

French ace Pogba has already been promised £8.8m a year after tax by Barcelona, who want to land him next year when their transfer embargo ends.

So Pogba has let it be known he wants that astronomical figure matched if he is to move to Stamford Bridge.

British tax rates mean the Blues would need to pay Pogba £318,000 a week, meaning a total salary package of a £82m over the course of a five-year contract.

Starsport understands Chelsea are continuing to work on a deal for the 22-year-old with one source close to the club saying: "It's only about the money."

Yesterday, boss Jose Mourinho, without naming Pogba, confirmed the club are closing in on a deal.

"Hopefully I have one in," he said. "Hopefully. But we are not in trouble. We are not desperate. We are not panicking because the transfer window closes in a couple of days.

"If we get him, we get him. If not, we don't. But for a perfect shape of the squad, one more player would give us a good balance."

Chelsea look set to go in for Everton centre back John Stones, 21, again in the January transfer window after their fourth offer of £37m was snubbed.

Everton chairman Bill Kenright insists the England defender is not for sale.

But Chelsea will test their resolve again in the new year.

Mourinho reaches his 100th home league game today with the visit of Crystal Palace.

But the Portuguese coach revealed he is more likely to treat his wife to a meal out if his team lose.

That has only happened once in the previous 99 games, against Sunderland last season. But he said: "If I lose, I go out.

"If I win, I don't go out then. I have four or five restaurants where I go.

"It's like a family thing. I don't have to hide myself because I've lost a match."
