Jordy Hiwula is in line for his Wigan debut against Crewe after joining on a season-long loan this week.

The 20-year-old forward moved to the DW Stadium from Huddersfield, with wantaway midfielder Emyr Huws making the move in the opposite direction having told Latics boss Gary Caldwell he had no intention of playing in the third tier.

Veteran full-back Kevin McNaughton is facing a few weeks out with an injury related to his hamstring while Will Grigg will make his final appearance before linking up with Northern Ireland on international duty.

Don Cowie has now had surgery on his calf problem and is on the mend while Tim Chow (ankle) remains sidelined too.

Crewe could hand debuts to two new signings after announcing the double loan capture of Liverpool forward Harry Wilson and Swansea full-back Stephen Kingsley this week.

Wilson has joined until January, while Kingsley has signed on a 93-day emergency loan keeping him with the Alex until early November.

George Ray has been cleared to be involved in Saturday's match after he was forced to come off in the first half of last weekend's 3-3 draw with Bury due to breathing problems having taken a knock to the throat.

Fellow defender Harry Davis could feature for the first time this season having recovered from a knee problem, but midfielder James Jones (shoulder) is still unavailable.
