LIVERPOOL winger Lazar Markovic is set to join Fenerbahce on a season-long loan.
OFF: Lazar Markovic looks set to leave Liverpool
The Reds are currently in talks with the Turkish club over the deal and it is expected to be completed in the next 48 hours.
Markovic, 21, arrived at Anfield last summer from Benfica in a £20m deal.
The pacey Serbia winger struggled in his first year at Liverpool as he battled to win a regular place in Brendan Rodgers’ side.
But the club have not given up on him and see this loan spell as a chance to continue the player’s development.
Markovic will be brought back to the club next summer and Rodgers has full confidence the player will deliver on the potential he showed while at Benfica.
But after the arrival of Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings and Divock Origi this summer, as well as the continued improvement from Jordon Ibe, first-team chances this season were set to be limited.
The Reds believe sending Markovic out on loan will give him the regular football he needs to improve.
They will monitor his progress in Turkey intently and hope he will be in a stronger position next summer to challenge for a starting spot in Rodgers’ team.
Markovic, who has yet to feature for Liverpool this season, is happy with the move.
