Iraq national U-23 coach Yahya Alwan will now be in charge of the senior national side ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup/2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifying campaign.
This was confirmed by Iraq Football Federation (IFF) President Abdulkhaliq Masoud Ahmad on Monday.
Former Qatar national team boss Dzemal Hadziabdic seemed to have a sudden change of mind after accepting the post and then left after one day.
The position of Iraq national team coach is nothing new for Alwan as he was in charge from November 1996 to June 1997.
His focus no doubt will be to do well in the joint 2018 FIFA World Cup/UAE 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifying campaign.
Iraq play their first match on September 3 against Chinese Taipei in Tehran and then travel to Bangkok to face Thailand on September 8.
In the Group F standings Thailand are currently on top with six points from wins against Vietnam and Chinese Taipei.
The group winners and four best runners-up will advance to the 2019 Asian Cup finals and the final round of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.
