Ronald Koeman confirms Jay Rodriguez will miss start of season despite goal in friendly

RONALD KOEMAN says Jay Rodriguez will sit out the start of the new Premier League season despite continuing his injury comeback with a goal in yesterday's 1-1 friendly draw with Espanyol.
RETURN: Koeman thinks Rodriguez needs more time
England ace Rodriguez pinged a stunning 25-yard strike to celebrate playing his first 90 minutes since suffering a cruciate knee injury in April last year.
But Saints boss Koeman said: "It's been a long time for Jay. The start of the season will come too quick for him.
"He scored a great goal and he played 90 minutes but in moments of the game you see he still needs more rhythm of play. That is normal as he was out a long time."
