Mourinho: You’d be surprised by Arsenal’s spending

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that Arsenal’s spending will come as a surprise to many, per the Mirror.

Mourinho has let loose in his interview with the Mirror and has stated the idea that Arsenal don’t spend money to be successful is incorrect when you look at their recent spending.

The Gunners have brought in former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech as their only signing so far this summer but have been reportedly linked with a move for a striker, with rumours of Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain being the most heavy of these rumours.

When asked if Arsenal get away with the idea of that they don’t spend money to be successful the Chelsea boss stated: ''This is the easiest thing to do – I don’t do it. Get a calculator. That is the easiest things, it leaves no space for speculation.

''If you want to be honest, objective and pragmatic it is the easiest job for a manager or journalist to do. If a manager is interested he can do it.

''I am not. But Diego Costa plus, Fabregas plus Begovic; Schneiderlin plus; Alexis Sanchez plus this one; Benteke plus Balotelli plus this one. It is easy and objective.”

Arsenal brought in Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez for the price of £42.4 million (figure per BBC) and around £30 million (figure per the Guardian) respectively.

Mourinho has commented on this saying: “If you add up the amounts clubs have spent in the last three or four years, I think maybe you will find a surprise.

''If you put (Mesut) Ozil plus Alexis Sanchez, plus (Calum) Chambers, plus (Mathieu) Debuchy you will maybe find a surprise.”

Arsenal conceded the third fewest goals in the Premier League last season with 36 and the third most goals scored with 71. They also created the second most chances in the league with 470.

They finished 13 points behind Chelsea last year as the south London side romped to Premier League victory.

Chelsea have been relatively quiet in the transfer window this summer bringing in Radamel Falcao on loan from AS Monaco, Asmir Begovic from Stoke City, Nathan from Atletico Paranaense and Cristian Manea from Viitorul Constanța.
