Arsenal have started this season in the same way that they ended the last, by winning silverware. The Gunners have already won the Emirates Cup and Barclays Asia Trophy in pre-season, neither of which are major titles, but it will encourage fans of the club to see their side winning matches against good opposition.
This Sunday they face the Premier League champions, Chelsea, in the Community Shield at Wembley, an honour which they won last season beating Manchester City 3-0 in the respective game. Arsene Wenger will now be hoping to continue this fine form at the weekend and into next season, where they open their campaign against West Ham on August 9th.
Petr Cech still remains their only signing of the summer but rumours continue to be banded around in regards to the north London club.
Here’s a round up of the latest Arsenal transfer stories:
Barcelona’s highly influential holding midfielder Sergio Busquets has become one of the most ambitious transfers to be linked to the club in the past few days. Apparently Wenger wants the Spanish international due to his versatility and sharpness in both defence and attack, which is considered to be better than Francis Coquelin. (Sport)
A slightly more realistic signing for Arsenal could be Napoli’s Jose Callejon, who looks set to join the Gunners and snub Chelsea, who are also said to be interested. The former Real Madrid man is expected to leave the Italian club this summer, following the departure of his former manager Rafa Benitez (Goal)
Arsenal have lost the services of young defender and former under-18’s captain George Dobson, who has signed for West Ham United. The 17-year-old had been a regular in the under-19 UEFA Youth League and last season’s under-21 side but he will now look to develop his game further at the Hammers. (Arsenal.com)

Costa Rican international Joel Campbell looks set to join Serie A side Palermo on loan this summer with the Eagles president Maurizio Zamparini in London to discuss a deal for the 23-year-old. Campbell did impress at the 2014 World Cup but failed to reproduce that form in the Premier League so a spell elsewhere could help his development. (Tutto Mecarto Web)
Juventus’ pursuit of Schalke’s Julian Draxler has hit a stumbling block after the German club rejected the Old Lady’s £15.6m offer for the 21-year-old. This have given Arsenal a boost in their interest of the player and Wenger could be prepared to offer £30m for the German international. (Metro)
