Paris Saint-Germain are being a bit stingy in their pursuit of Angel Di Maria.
The French champions have been linked with the Argentine winger since before he moved to Manchester United but their latest bid for him doesn’t reflect that.
Di Maria missed the plane to America for United’s pre-season tour with a deal looking all but done with PSG. But one can’t imagine United selling for £28.5 million.
That’s the figure reported by the Guardian, over £30m less than United forked out to Real Madrid last summer. Sure, one might possibly argue that Di Maria was not worth the British record transfer fee.
The likes of Louis van Gaal and Ed Woodward are not expecting to recoup the entire £59.7m they forked out for him last summer, but this bid is insulting.
Particularly when one considers how stinking rich PSG are.
No longer shackled by Financial Fair Play, Laurent Blanc can surely request more money from the Qatari sugar daddies that bankroll his spending.
United are holding on to David De Gea partly out of principal. They refuse to be bullied. They’re in advanced negotiations, but PSG will have to up their bid.
