Chelsea set to make move for impressive left-back as AS Roma make £11m bid for Bundesliga star

Stamford Bridge side chase Ghana international.

Chelsea are ready to push on with efforts to sign Augsburg left-back Abdul Rahman Baba, according to the Daily Mail.

Jose Mourinho will look to strengthen his options on the left-flank of his defence with Filipe Luis not proving all that impressive when called upon as back-up to Cesar Azpilicueta.

AS Roma have made an offer of £11m for Baba, according to the Daily Mail, and Manchester City are also keen on the Ghana international, who moved to Augsburg last summer and proved hugely impressive at the SGL arena.

Whilst a move to Stamford Bridge might well interest Baba, the youngster would do well to think long and hard about how such a high-profile transfer could affect his overall career progression.

Rahman will find it tough to displace Azpilicueta as Chelsea’s first-choice left-back, the Spaniard having been in superb form over the past couple of campaigns, and as such would likely have to bide his time warming the bench whilst at the Premier League giants.

The Augsburg man is undoubtedly a player with great potential, but nonetheless, the international would at least be assured of continuing his strong progress if he were to remain at his German outfit, especially given their superb fifth-place finish last season that has earned them a Europa League berth for the coming campaign.
