Roma confirm interest in Dzeko

Roma have confirmed their interest in signing Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko this summer - but admit a deal is some distance from being agreed.

Bosnian striker Dzeko is thought to be surplus to requirements at the Etihad Stadium after a four-year stay at the club and Roma have been rumoured as a possible destination.

Dzeko cost City £27million when he moved from Wolfsburg in 2011 and it is thought City want to recoup a similar amount.

The transfer fee is proving to be a bit of a sticking point, despite Roma's sporting director Walter Sabatini confirming their interest in Dzeko.

"Dzeko is not very close, but Roma are trying to get him," Sabatini confirmed. "He's the right man for us, but tough to get, as he's expensive."

Meanwhile, Sabatini has confirmed that former Arsenal winger Gervinho will now not be leaving Roma after the collapse of his move to Al-Jazira.

The Ivory Coast forward’s move to Abu Dhabi collapsed earlier in the week, with allegations that he had demanded a helicopter and private beach as part of his transfer. Both player and club have denied these rumours and Gervinho will now return to the Stadio Olimpico.

Sabatini added: "No [Gervinho doesn't want to move]. He changed his mind and wants to stay with us now."
