Chelsea transfer round-up: Falcao deal confirmed, Baba expected to join

It’s been a quiet summer so far for Chelsea fans, but they had something to shout about today when it was officially announced that 29-year-old Radamel Falcao had finally completed his expected move to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have been taking it easy so far and whilst the rumour mill has been rife, Jose Mourinho has been assessing his options carefully as he looks to retain the Premier League title next season.

The Blues spent well last summer when they brought in the likes of Filipe Luis, Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and kept Thibaut Courtois, so Falcao’s arrival could be the start of something just as special.

With the summer transfer market just three days old now, speculation is fresh. Here is all the latest surrounding the potential ins and outs in West London.

Chelsea have completed their first signing of the summer with the arrival of Falcao on a season-long loan. The Colombia international netted just four goals in 26 league games at Manchester United last season, which prompted Louis van Gaal against making it a permanent deal. However, what could be Van Gaal’s loss is potentially Mourinho’s gain, with the ex-Porto man joining for the 2015/16 campaign from French giants Monaco. Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah has turned down a move to Serie A outfit Fiorentina, opening up the pursuit for Inter Milan and Roma. The Egyptian star spent the second half of last season on loan in Florence and after impressing under Vincenzo Montella, new manager Paulo Sousa was keen to make it a permanent deal. However, Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas has confirmed that the 23-year-old has turned down Fiorentina, but will sign for another Serie A club. Salah scored six league goals during his time in Serie A. Furthermore from the Salah situation, the whole saga could take a turn for the worse after Fiorentina announced today they were taking legal action and involving their lawyers, after Salah’s decision. Sousa’s men have revealed that Salah has turned down a move to them and will not report for pre-season training, forcing them to leave the situation with their lawyers in order to “protect the club’s rights”. Salah created 30 chances in Serie A last season. (Fiorentina’s official website)

Chelsea have confirmed that as part of the deal to sign for Falcao for the coming season, the Blues have allowed young Mario Pasalic to join Monaco on a loan deal as well. The 20-year-old Croatian midfielder, who signed for Chelsea from Hajduk Split last summer, will spend the 2015/16 campaign with Leonardo Jardim’s troops. (Chelsea’s official website)

Juventus are eying up a surprise move for Chelsea playmaker Willian, despite being heavily linked with a move for his compatriot and team-mate Oscar. The Old Lady are looking to bolster their ranks this summer after a brilliant 2014/15 campaign and are keen to add some width to their side with the addition of Willian. Mourinho has always been a big fan of the Brazil international and it remains to be seen whether he would allow the move to go ahead. Willian registered three league assists last season. Finally, Chelsea seem to have lost out in the race for Atletico Madrid star Arda Turan, after Barcelona agreed a deal for the 28-year-old Turkey international. Turan has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the last week or so, but Luis Enrique’s men hold the upper hand, with Spanish reporter Begona Perez confirming the deal has gone Barca’s way. Turan scored just two league goals last season. (talkSPORT)

Chelsea are expected to sign Augsburg’s Baba Rahman. The Bundesliga outfit are resigned to losing the left-back, with Rahman eager to move to the Premier League. The youngster won 91 tackles last season, the most in the Bundesliga. (ESPN)
